Fall, already?

First, a big, warm thank you to all of you that I met at the Winnipeg Pemmi-Con and other occasions of celebrating science-fiction.

September – new book!

I am launching a French SF book this fall, Rose du désert, Éditions David, about a very pessimistic, troubled teen living on an hostile planet. Rose can’t relate to other teens, is painfully aware of her cognitive lapses and waits for the end. Nevertheless, when the drought threatens everyone’s survival, she must come out of her shell…

For you English-speaking, the illustration on the cover is from me.

It was not supposed to be. I usually send a crude sketch to my publishers, and the graphic designer takes on. But changes in the format of the collection – and to the covers – prodded me to complete this illustration of Rose, entirely done with Clip Studio.

The official launch of the novel will be in the Congrès Boréal, a French-speaking Canadian Science fiction convention in Montréal, on October 21st.

The fast track:

  • My most recent publication « Tears Down the Wall » is out in the September-October Asimov’s issue. Check out my wonderful cover neighbors!
  • « Living on the Trap » will be out at Analog in November-December 2023
  • « When the Last Writer Died” is out in Polar Borealis 27. Polar Borealis is an online fanzine enturely supported and edited by Richard Graeme Cameron.
  • And… for he first time ever, I am included in a « Best-of » of Canadian SF authors by . The reprint contract has been signed for « Rare Earths Pineapple » published in Analog last year.

New Book on the Block

A bullied boy, Julien, finds a glove. And everything changes. For the better?

The cover – Le gant (The glove).

My 17th novel and a bad cold (or flu) came together this week!

Summary: A bullied teenager, Julien, finds a solitary glove. Everything changes. For the better?  A story about the subtle roots of power and  corruption, in a mid-high school setting.

So no complicated comic today. Yesterday snapshot: author down with cold and some guilt from not even being able to read.

Cold

Our bicolor lady cat has very irregular white markings on her fur. And she always nestles where I would put my legs!

Coming out soon, the next Chaaas novel

My next SF novel, La spirale de Lar Jubal, will be out in one month. (It will be printed in January to hit the book shops on February, just before the Outaouais Book Fair ( www.slo.qc.ca ).

Cover illustration of Chaaas 4 by Sybiline

On Lapsilis, a cylindrical habitat orbiting a devastated planet, young and old work hard to build a spiraling grain crop for their future world. If questor Sirius approves of this zeal which reduces the crime to almost nothing, Chaaas notices many people burning themselves out.

Then a strange disease is decimating harvests. Who would benefit from destroying the dream of Lar Jubal, the brilliant visionary lost too soon?
Lar Corom, a charismatic artist, tipped to succeed the debonair Ludrinn as the colony leader? Noalli, the embittered wife of Corom, overlooking the floating garden ? Ruffan, a fierce supporter of a return to the original purity of the Gardener’s  creation ? Or Lar Eimer, a haughty scientific  who doubts the merits of the project?

Chaaas must investigate without being distracted by the amber eyes of Lali kha Nakarli … and his warming friendship towards Corom. With the help of Kiumi, a girl acrobat, Chaaas will discover secrets that endanger more than the dream of Lar Jubal…

The novel is in French, and as it is coming soon.  If you can read a little French, the book will be available from  www.Prologue.ca or www.Amazon.ca websites. If you have read and liked the other novels of the Chaaas series, you may let it know, either by typing a review or rate it on Goodreads.com. If you hated it: do the same thing. There is no bad publicity… :^)
